EnBW Erneuerbare Energien GmbH and Siemens Energy have today signed a contract for the supply of 80 wind turbines each with a capacity of 3.6 megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 120 meters for the offshore wind farm EnBW Baltic 2. The order, which represents an investment volume in the triple-digit million range, marks the first milestone in implementation of Germany’s second commercial offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea: EnBW Baltic 2.
EnBW Baltic 2 (previously Kriegers Flak) will be located approximately 32 kilometers north of the island of Rügen in the western Baltic and cover an area of approximately 27 square kilometers. First maritime civil works are scheduled to commence as early as 2012. With its 80 wind turbines each rated at 3.6 MW EnBW Baltic 2 will have a total capacity 288 MW. The offshore wind farm will generate 1,200 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually for approximately 340,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 900,000 tons. EnBW Baltic 2 is scheduled to come on line in 2013.
