Vestas joins the competition for the best response to future demands for sustainable energy. The jury, chaired by a former Nobel Peace Prize winner, will decide in January 2011.

Vestas’ V112-3.0 MW continues to attract positive attention. Most recently, the new turbine is nominated for an energy prize, recognizing its leading technology in wind power.

As one of the most renowned global competitions in the area of clean energy and sustainable development, the Zayed Future Energy Prize celebrates achievements that reflect innovation, long term vision and leadership within this area. The V112-3.0 MW has already passed through two rounds of review and has been designated as one of the top 40 entries to be reviewed by the selection committee.

For Vestas, the nomination is yet another sign of the notable interest in its newest turbine.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we have accepted the nomination for the 2011 Zayed Future Energy Prize,” says Vestas CEO Ditlev Engel. “Designed to lower our customers’ cost of energy, we believe the V112-3.0 MW will contribute to the success of clean, sustainable wind power in all global markets.”

“The interest in the V112 confirms our belief that this product has been developed incorporating the requirements of the majority of our markets, and most importantly, our customers,” adds Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean.

The nomination is the result of extensive teamwork, reveals Commercial Launch Manager for the V112-3.0 MW, Gian Schelling of Group Marketing and Customer Insight.

“Colleagues from numerous departments have walked the extra mile to contribute to this nomination. We want to win and the first feedback is very encouraging but of course we have not won yet.”

Finalists will be nominated for The Zayed Future Energy Prize by experts across the globe. The winners will be chosen in January 2011 by a jury led by Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize

Since 2007, this prize has been awarded to individuals, companies, organisations or NGOs that have made significant contributions to the future of energy.

Last year, Toyota won with its Prius hybrid-car that runs on both gasoline and electric power.
