ABPmer, a leading UK marine environmental consultancy, has reported that against a much increased competitive and challenging market background, it achieved its ambitious 2010 sales target.

The energy sector continues to be its biggest market and the company continues to offer a suite of services to the offshore wind market including impact assessments and metocean forecasting and is currently engaged with the majority of Round 3 zones.

Additionally, ABPmer offers specialist support to marine renewables and power stations and has recently been commissioned by Helius to undertake studies for a potential biomass power station in Southampton.

The company remained a recognised authority in delivering habitat creation and managed realignment schemes and is currently working with Bristol Port Company in relation to their compensation scheme for their Deep Sea Container Terminal.

Whilst ABPmer provided support to key stakeholders on marine conservation zone planning, much of its policy related work focused on ecosystem goods and services. The organisation is currently undertaking a valuation study for The Crown Estate.

We anticipate that 2011 will continue to be challenging but we remain confident that our niche position as a specialist marine consultancy should give us a degree of market resilience.

Bill Cooper, ABPmer Managing Director, said “ We are delighted with our 2010 success, especially as the market was challenging. We are fortunate to be niche supplier across a number of markets as this provides some resilience.

The energy sector remains our largest market and with increasing interest in our new services such as SEASTATES.NET we anticipate further penetration next year. As public sector funding began to decline, the port sector picked up as the economic situation improved. This meant that as well as supporting ABP, our parent company, we also worked for a number of UK ports and harbours including Peel Ports and Stena Line. Additionally, we won two significant impact assessment contracts in the marine aggregates. We hope to expand on these studies in future so that we become an established service provider in this market.

We anticipate that 2011 will be challenging but remain confident that our niche position and exciting R&D programme will maintain our strong market resistance.”
