Sea Asia, the region’s leading maritime conference and exhibition in Singapore, hosted even more senior industry executives on its second day, building on yesterday’s record-breaking numbers.
At the end of Day Two this evening, some 9,173 international and regional participants had passed through the show’s doors.
As visitors formed a steady stream into the Marina Bay Sands exhibition hall all day, up in the conference chambers hundreds of delegates gathered to hear expert views and opinions in sessions focused on a range of current topics from ship finance to technical rules and regulations, sustainable approaches to technology, and LNG activities in the Far East.
At the end of today, the number of delegates booked for the conference had already topped 700, surpassing the total figure for the last show in 2009.
In today’s conference proceedings, Philip Clausius, President & CEO of FSL Trust Management Pte Ltd, chaired a high-profile afternoon session on Alternative Instruments of Ship Finance, while earlier in the day DnB NOR’s Global Head of Shipping, Offshore & Logistics, Harald Serck-Hanssen, had chaired a packed session on the Global Ship Finance Market and State of the Industry.
Sea Asia 2011 ends tomorrow, Thursday 14 April, with special focus on Asia’s pivotal offshore and energy markets.
Tomorrow morning’s conference focuses on Drivers of the Offshore Industry in Asia, in a session to be chaired by BW Group’s CEO, Andreas Sohmen-Pao and featuring a heavyweight panel drawn from the top levels of companies including V. Ships Offshore, Topaz Marine, BG Asia Pacific Pte Limited, Ince & Co, and Ezra Holdings Ltd.
The afternoon conference will finish with a key session on Interface with the Asian Maritime Sector, in which C.H. Tong, Chief Executive Officer of Keppel Offshore & Marine will chair a panel on offshore opportunities for the region’s maritime industries.
The final day of Sea Asia 2011 will also host a Youth Tour, an initiative to profile Sea Asia and the maritime sectors to prospective career hunters in the student community. Around 200 students from the various institutes of higher learning will be involved in this unique opportunity to meet and speak with companies and witness the dynamism and diversity at work in the sunrise maritime industries.
Sea Asia, which articulates the Voice of the Asian maritime communities, has captured the imagination of the global shipping community. It was officially opened yesterday (12 April) by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean.
Sea Asia 2011 occupies 13,600 sq m of gross space at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. It has more than 6,200 sq m of net used space in an exhibition booked by 340 maritime and shipping businesses from 40 countries. Country pavilions include China, Japan, Norway, Panama, Singapore, Turkey and the UK.
