Seajacks UK Limited (Seajacks) announced it has entered into a contract with WindMW GmbH (WindMW) for the installation of foundations and turbines for the Meerwind Project, which will be located off the coast of Germany in the North Sea near the island Helgoland.

Seajacks will be providing services as the main installation contractor and will use vessels from Seajacks fleet to install the 80 foundations and wind turbine generator sets at Meerwind’s location in the German Bight.

Blair Ainslie, Managing Director of Seajacks , said “We are extremely pleased to enter into this contract with WindMW as the main installation contractor for the Meerwind project. This contract is an important milestone for Seajacks. It confirms our position as one of the leading UK based offshore wind installation contractors and gives us the opportunity to export our knowledge, experience and operational excellence to the German market. It will also enable us to provide a significantly increased range of services and solutions both for WindMW and for our other Clients.”

Jens Assheuer, Managing Director of WindMW commented, “We are delighted to have secured the services of Seajacks to perform the installation work on the Meerwind project. It was important for us to work with a company with a good track record in the wind industry and a modern fleet of vessels, and we are looking forward to working with the Seajacks team. Signing this contract is another important step for our project, ensuring Meerwind stays on track to be one of the major, early contributors to the German offshore wind market”.

Since 2009, Seajacks vessels have installed over 125 turbines at Walney and Greater Gabbard offshore wind farms in the UK.

WindMW is responsible for the planning and construction of Meerwind. The company’s main shareholder is The Blackstone Group, one of the world’s leading investment and advisory firms.

Construction is expected to start in 2012.
