Seajacks Becomes Main Installation Contractor for Meerwind Offshore Wind Project (Germany)

Seajacks UK announces that WindMW GmbH (WindMW) has confirmed that the Meerwind project has reached financial close.

Seajacks will be the the main installation contractor and will use vessels from Seajacks’ fleet to install 80 foundations and wind turbine generator sets at Meerwind’s location in the German Bight.

The contract is valued in excess of £100 million.

Blair Ainslie, Managing Director of Seajacks, said “We are extremely pleased to enter into this contract with WindMW as the main installation contractor for the Meerwind project. This contract is an important milestone for Seajacks. It confirms our position as one of the leading UK based offshore wind installation contractors and gives us the opportunity to export our knowledge, experience and operational excellence to the German market. It will also enable us to provide a significantly increased range of services and solutions both for WindMW and for our other clients.”

Jens Assheuer, Managing Director of WindMW commented, “We are delighted to have secured the services of Seajacks to perform the installation work on the Meerwind project. It was important for us to work with a company with a good track record in the wind industry and a modern fleet of vessels, and we are looking forward to working with the Seajacks team. Signing this contract is another important step for our project, ensuring Meerwind stays on track to be one of the major, early contributors to the German offshore wind market”.

Since 2009, Seajacks’ vessels have installed over 155 turbines at Walney and Greater Gabbard offshore wind farms in the UK.

Construction will start in 2012.

About Meerwind

The Meerwind Offshore Wind Project consists of 80 Siemens wind turbines with a power output of 3.6MW each.

The location is one of the most promising in the emerging offshore wind business in Germany. The location combines the best offshore wind conditions with convenient water depth of 22m to 26m.

Construction of the 288MW offshore wind farm will be completed in 2013.
