A project has been set up to consider what the potential onshore requirements might be of an offshore windfarm off Tiree. This is the first step in the Masterplanning process.

Argyll and Bute Council is working in partnership with the Scottish Government, Marine Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Tiree Community Development Trust, The Crown Estate, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited, Scottish Natural Heritage and Scottish Power Renewables to examine and better understand any potential onshore implications associated with the proposed Argyll Array offshore installation. The steering group managing the project is being chaired by Argyll and Bute Council.

Councillor Neil Mackay, Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for enterprise, energy, culture and tourism , said: “This is a very important piece of work. Windfarms have operational and maintenance needs which typically include a level of land-based development. The study will help assist the steering group, community and stakeholders in considering any potential land-based implications associated with the proposed Argyll Array and ensure early community input and consultation.”

Following a tendering exercise, Environmental Consultants Ironside Farrar has been appointed to help the group take forward the study over the next six months. Engagement with the community and key stakeholders will be at the heart of the process, with consultation planned throughout the study period.

Ironside Farrar are visiting Tiree between Friday 5th and Sunday 7th August to familiarise themselves with the island and the community.
