James Smith, former Chairman of Shell UK, has been appointed Chairman of the Carbon Trust. James brings over thirty years of experience in the energy industry, the last seven as Chairman of Shell UK. He was appointed to the Carbon Trust board in September 2010.
The appointment is with immediate effect. James Smith replaces Sir Ian McAllister who steps down after 10 years as Chairman having been appointed in 2001.
James Smith said:

In addition to tackling climate change, the extraordinary work of the Carbon Trust provides a stimulus for economic growth.”

Lastly, we have opened markets for low carbon energy and energy efficiency whilst supporting the development of new, often unproven, low carbon technologies.”
