ABPmer has been commissioned by DONG Energy Power (UK) Ltd to provide a coastal processes environmental impact assessment for the Burbo Bank and Walney Offshore Wind Farm Extensions.

These projects will seek to achieve a robust investigation by making maximum use of an evidence based approach and in accord with COWRIE guidance.

ABPmer has been supplying the offshore wind sector for over a decade with a range of specialist services to describe the physical environment ranging from initial studies and impact assessments on the marine environment through to metocean design and forecasting for engineering support. ABPmer has long recognized the importance of applying an evidenced based approach to help underpin marine physical process investigations. Since 2009 the company has invested in its own database to maintain an evidence base. This database provides an important resource of technical information collated from site investigations, monitoring and technical studies from around 30 offshore wind farm projects across the UK and overseas.

Bill Cooper, ABPmer Managing Director, said: “We are pleased to continue our support to DONG in their offshore wind ambitions employing this evidence-based approach. The concepts were previously applied successfully to the smaller-scale Gunfleet Sands Phase 2 and Demonstration projects, also for DONG.”

It is anticipated that this work will be completed by the end of the year to ensure timely input to the strict timetables for consenting.

ABPmer is a leading marine environmental consultancy in the provision of specialist advice and technical expertise to the offshore wind sector. The organisation has led several strategic level technical reviews for Government and The Crown Estate and its coastal process and metocean analysis expertise has supported the majority of Round 1 and Round 2 offshore wind farm projects and continues to do so for Round 3 assessments.
