London Array is sponsoring Kent’s Coastal Week this year, which runs from 22 to 30 October.
Kent’s Coastal Week is a celebration of all that the Kent coast has to offer, with free or subsidised events – ranging from creative workshops, beach art and boat trips to shingle sculptures and storytelling – taking place from Dartford round the 350 miles to Dungeness.
London Array is looking forward to getting involved with the creative theme of Kent’s Coastal Week 2011, and members of the team will be present at the ‘Creative Coast in Whitstable’ weekend event on Sunday 23 October, which kickstarts the week of activities.
Visitors to the London Array stand will be able to take part in a range of scientific and creative activities, from demonstrating how wind energy can be converted to electrical energy to making windmill sails, and children will be able to drop in and take part in the experiments.
Children will be able to create their own ‘whirligigs’ and thaumatropes – a spinning disc with a picture on both sides – which they can take home, and there will also be information about what will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
Joanne Haddon, Stakeholder and Media Manager for London Array , said: “We are always keen to help younger people develop an interest in sustainable development, science and engineering, and we felt Kent’s Coastal Week was a fantastic way to do this by hosting these workshops which explore science in a fun and creative way.“

London Array has supported Kent’s Coastal Week alongside the European regional development programme (2007 – 2013 European Regional Development Fund INTERREG IVA 2 Seas programme) and Southern Water.
