Wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited hosted the Hon Greg Combet AM MP, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and Melissa Parke MP, at its private wave energy research facility in Fremantle today.

Carnegie’s Managing Director and CEO Dr Michael Ottaviano provided Minister Combet with a briefing on the CETO technology and the progress of the Perth Wave Energy Project and led an onshore inspection of the CETO 3 unit which successfully completed in ocean testing earlier this year.

Carnegie also welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas, the Hon T Brent Symonette to its Fremantle facility yesterday. Carnegie’s Chairman Mr Grant Mooney welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas, the Hon T Brent Symonette to Carnegie’s private wave energy research facility where discussions were held on the Bahamas power and water market and the potential for applying CETO in the Bahamas.

Dr Ottaviano said,

“We are glad for the opportunity to show both Australian and international dignitaries our world class wave energy research facility in Fremantle. Minister Combet’s visit is timely given the recent passage of the Clean Energy Bill through the House of Representatives which will help to provide focus in Australia to earlier stage renewable technologies like ours.

Also, remote island nations such as the Bahamas provide attractive economics for the CETO technology and we continue to investigate project opportunities in this market.”

Both delegations are in Perth as part of the Commonwealth Business Forum held this week in the lead up to Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) this weekend. Yesterday, Dr Ottaviano also presented at the Commonwealth Business Forum and participated in a clean technology roundtable.
