Egyptian energy minister Hassan Yunis has said the government is to launch a tender offer for the installation of wind farms on the Gulf of Suez with a capacity of 200 megawatts, AFP has reported.
The wind power plant, scheduled to start work in April 2014, is estimated to cost $500m, with contributions from the European Investment Bank and the European Commission, Yunis said. The tender represent the second and third phases of the expansion of Egypt’s wind farming plans under a renewable energy programme, the minister added.
