SMALL scale hydro developer Green Highland Renewables has appointed a new managing director.
The Perth company said Ian Cartwright has been brought in to oversee the next phase of its development.
Cartwright was the founder of J S Cartwright and Company, which he sold to Scottish Hydro Contracting in 1999 in a s1 million deal.
He then helped grow Scottish Hydro Contracting’s renewable energy business from s100,00 turnover in 2000 to around s8 million in most recent annual figures.
Since then he has managed major renewables projects such as the European Marine Energy Centre tidal wave and test sites at Orkney, the Causeymire and Farr windfarms, and the Eigg Electrification project.
Cartwright said: “The Green Highland proposition is very exciting.
“The company is in the right place at the right time with tremendous potential for growth through its range of models for hydro either as developers, joint venture partners, or as project managers to owner developers.”
Green Highland Renewables founder and outgoing managing director, Alastair Riddell, said: “Green Highland now sits at a very exciting juncture in its development.
“Our order book is expanding, enquiries are increasing, and the opportunities we are creating are growing in number.
“It is time for the business to move up a gear. Ian has a proven track record in doing that with his own business, with Scottish Hydro Contracting and elsewhere, and I believe he is exactly the right person to take Green Highland to the next level.
“I will continue to be involved in business as executive director, but with other less intensive day-to-day duties. I will support Ian as and where he needs it.”
Green Highland Renewables has already commissioned a s1.8 million 807 kW hydropower station at Roroyere,Glen Lyon.
The firm has planning permission secured for its own 1MW scheme at Ledgowan as well as two client schemes – an 800 kW development at Achnasheen and an 84 kW development at Keppoch.
It has also been contracted by Forestry Commission Scotland to explore and develop small scale hydro schemes on the national forest estate in the northwest Highlands.
