A good Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System is of vital importance in offshore wind farm projects. An effective HSE Management System needs a safety policy which governs the full lifecycle of the project and provides the basis for the prevention of accidents and environmental damages.
In her presentation at EWEA Offshore 2011 in Amsterdam, Gundula Fischer, GL Garrad Hassan, shows how safety in a German offshore wind farm project is managed within the requirements of the legislative and regulatory framework.
The presentation focuses on the description of the project management and HSE Management services provided by GL Garrad Hassan for a German utility’s offshore wind farm project in the North Sea. Developed from the experience gathered from multi-contractor offshore oil and gas projects, this approach to health, safety and environmental management has been successfully implemented on an offshore wind farm in the UK. The best practices formulated from this experience will now be implemented in further projects for the German offshore wind industry.
