PD Ports continues to display its commitment to provide ports & logistical support to the renewable energy market by providing a first class stevedoring service for an on-shore wind turbine project at the Port of Immingham.
In conjunction with Immingham port owners, Associated British Ports (ABP), the PD Ports specialist stevedoring team took receipt of five wind turbine shipments from Danish Based Freight Forwarders, Bluewater Shipping A/S. The vast 80 metre high turbines, (the Angel of the North is 20 metres high), were built by the world’s leading supplier of wind power solutions, Vestas.
The project for 22 complete turbines is the first time a complete wind turbine farm has been handled at the Port of Immingham and PD Ports was instrumental in providing Bluewater Shipping A/S with a solution that worked in terms of the essential project cargo handling experience at the shipside and in the intermediary storage area at the Port.
The operation required pinpoint accuracy for the positioning of the enormous turbines as they were discharged from the vessel onto specialist transport and again during off-loading into the storage area. When required on site, the turbines will be transported on to their final destination at the Tween Bridge Wind Farm in Doncaster.
