INNOVATION is vital if firms want to succeed in the Humber’s renewables industry, according to experts at a Hull company backing a green energy award.

BCG Bridgepoint, which provides support to small businesses wanting to secure public sector work, is sponsoring the innovation category of the Humber Renewables Awards 2012.

The accolades – the first of their type in the area – will recognise the success of individuals, firms and other organisations operating in the region’s rapidly-developing renewable energy sector.

John Britton, managing director of BCG Bridgepoint , said sponsoring the innovation category of the awards perfectly matches the company’s aim.

He said: “In the current economic situation, people who are prepared to think differently and to act on that by changing will be the ones who emerge best from the downturn. Helping people to make innovations successful is a major part of our business.

“Renewable Energy is a market in development with relatively high production costs and low margins. In this situation innovation is the key to success, reducing production costs and increasing value at a competitive price level.

“It will be the companies that apply new ideas to solving problems and offer more competitive prices that will be the ones that will win their place in the supply chain.”

BCG Bridgepoint was established in 2007 and offers jargon-free support to businesses across Yorkshire and the Humber – including those in the emerging renewables industry.

The company has a successful track record of helping firms tender and win government contracts, as well as improving their supply chain performance and business processes – ultimately increasing profitability.

Mr Britton said it’s important the region properly prepares for the potential offered by the renewable energy industry – with the offshore wind market worth £15 billion alone to the Humber area, as major wind turbine developers and operators look to base operations in the region.

He said: “Opportunities on this scale do not come along that often, so it’s essential businesses are efficient and agile, ready and prepared to adapt and win. The outcome will be as good as we make it.”

The Humber Renewables Awards 2012 are being hosted by specialist public relations and marketing company Footprint Renewables, in association with Mail News & Media, publisher of the Mail.

Eight award categories are available to enter and a panel of independent judges, drawn from the renewables industry and local business community, will select the winners – who will be announced at a gala dinner at The Deep in Hull on March 2.
