“RusHydro”, the largest Hydro-company in the country, plans to construct next year a tidal power plant in Murmansk, said Igor Usachev, a tidal energy manager at RusHydro.
Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko called the renewable energy direction very important and added that Russia has interests in the development of geothermal and tidal stations.
The construction of the tidal power plant will begin in 2012, and will be complete in 2-3 years.
Northern tidal power station is the pilot project which will be located in the Murmansk region.
This project is part of RusHydro’s renewable energy development programme.
The design capacity of the tidal power plant is 12 MW, and on average, it will produce 18.8 million kWh annually.
“RusHydro” holds 68 renewable energy facilities which makes it the largest generating company in Russia.
Installed capacity of “RusHydro” is 26.1 GW, including the Sayano-Shushenskaya power plant (6.4 GW), which is currently under reconstruction.
