EnBW Renewables GmbH has offered a briefing to public utilities and industrial companies, to participate in its second offshore wind farm EnBW Baltic 2.

19 municipal utilities had already participated in the first offshore wind farm Baltic EnBW 1. Stefan Thiele, CEO of EnBW Renewables GmbH, said that the completed financing for EnBW’s Baltic 1 shows that the capital market is convinced in their offshore expertise, and that high level of interest has encouraged them to develop a new investment offer for EnBW Baltic 2.

EnBW Baltic 2 is located in Baltic Sea, 32 km north of the island Rügen. It is four times as big as EnBW Baltic 1, and will generate six times as much electricity.

The depth of the sea varies between 23 and 44 meters. Depending on this depth, the installations are mounted either on steel piles, so-called monopiles (up to 35 meters deep) or steel-framework-structures, so-called jackets (starting from a depth of 35 meters).

With a yearly output of about 1.2 billion kWh,EnBW’s Wind park Baltic 2 will be able to provide electricity for about 340,000 households per year. By this, 900,000 tons CO2 can be saved.

Constructions will begin in mid 2012. In the summer of last year, EnBW has awarded all major contracts. With the so-called focal start – the first cut out parts from the raw steel – has been made in November 2011 in Kiel, the construction of the substation and its foundation.

Around 120 participants followed the invitation EnBW Baltic 2. A part of the companies is already involved in EnBW Baltic 1

EnBW plans to sign contracts with the investors by mid 2012.

EnBW aim is to increase the share of renewable energies in their energy mix. By 2020, EnBW plans to further build over 3,000 MW of installed capacity from renewable energy sources.
