The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved an amended renewable energy plan (REP) for The Detroit Edison Company.

The utility on June 2 filed an application seeking, among other things, approval of an amended REP that includes a portfolio of about 1,000 megawatts (MW) of nameplate capacity of renewable and advanced cleaner energy generating assets, either owned or contracted by the company. The plan includes 432 MW of company-owned wind energy generating facilities and 15 MW of solar generating assets by 2029. The plan also calls for the purchase of renewable energy and renewable energy credits representing about 560 MW from third parties by 2029.

Today’s order also approves up to $1 million for pilot, research and demonstration of emerging renewable energy technologies, including offshore wind generation. In addition, it also directs the MPSC staff to convene an informal collaborative with Detroit Edison and other interested parties within 60 days to explore possibilities for extending the customer-owned part of its SolarCurrents program.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
