Jim Gordon explained how the SJC decision to uphold the approval of the Cape Wind contract with National Grid helps propel the project forward.

„I think big wind means that there is huge offshore wind resource right off the coast of Massachusetts that we can tap for greater energy independence, more stable electric costs, new jobs, and kick start the whole new industry in Massachusetts” , said Cape Wind President, Jim Gordon.

Gordon denied accusations that government fixed power purchase deal, saying that after five months of reviewing Cape Wind National Grid contract, the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) ruled that this project was cost effective, in public interest and produces unique attributes that other renewable cannot.

Opponents went to Supreme Court of Massachusetts, and got the same answer.

Currently, there is no offshore wind farm in the US, so the Cape Wind helped develop regulatory and legal framework for these projects.

“The reason that we’re able to continue on is because of the support that we’re getting from the environmental community, labor and ordinary citizens on Cape Cod and across the commonwealth” , said Gordon .

He expects the construction of the Cape Wind offshore wind farm to begin in 2013.
