After Gamesa scraped Dundee from its offshore wind manufacturing base list, saying that Dundee cannot help them in achieving a plan to manufacture G11X-5.0 MW and G14X-7.0 MW offshore wind turbines, SSE has stepped in.

A Memorandum of agreement was signed between SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy), Dundee City Council, Forth Ports and Scottish Enterprise for SSE to set up a manufacturing plant for wind turbines at Dundee Harbour.

It is believed that this agreement will create 700 new direct jobs and even hundreds more indirectly linked jobs in the renewables industry.
