Business Meeting for Baltic 2 Offshore Wind Farm (Germany)

“Domestic firms can benefit from the construction of Baltic II,“ said Glawe .

North of Rügen, Baltic II will be built as the second offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea from mid-2012. It is a central offshore project in the Baltic Sea. “Shipbuilding industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has the opportunity to benefit from the offshore business by the possible construction of specialized ships or offshore platforms,” said Glawe .

Last year, Near Darss island, the first commercial wind farm in Germany, EnBW’s Baltic I, was successfully put into operation. All 21 foundations were made by the EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH in Rostock. “Overall, more than 30 local entrepreneurs and service providers were involved in the project, 39 percent of total expenditure went to suppliers from MV” continues Glawe . Baltic I consists of 21 turbines with 48.3 MW total capacity.

EnBW Baltic II is located about 32 km north of Rügen and should include an area of approximately 27 square kilometers. 80 wind turbines with 3.6 megawatts each will have a total capacity of 288 megawatts and the annual production of 1,200 GWh electricity for about 340,000 households.
