Industry leaders held a meeting with the region’s boatbuilding firms at Great Yarmouth to talk about opportunities in the offshore wind industry, reports EveningNews24.
In January 2010, the Crown Estate announced Round 3 wind licenses for potential 33GW of wind power. UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced: “The offshore wind industry is at the heart of the UK economy’s shift to low carbon and could be worth £75 billion and support up to 70,000 jobs by 2020.”
When the construction kicks off, hundreds of new vessels will be needed to service them.
Some of the companies are already seeing increase in the contracts for the offshore wind vessels.
