First Minister Alex Salmond thinks that independent Scotland could cash in GBP 30 billion from green energy over 20 years. He said that unparalleled energy resources would give Scotland a huge competitive advantage over the rest of Europe, reports The Guardian.

The country has 25% of Europe’s tidal and offshore wind potential and 10% of wave power potential.

“Scotland has a huge competitive advantage. We will be able to produce energy better and cheaper than anywhere else – and in deeper waters”, said First Minister.

The Scottish Government intends to hold a referendum of the Scottish electorate on the issue of independence from the United Kingdom in the autumn of 2014.
