The CEO and the sole shareholder of Windreich AG, Willi Balz, welcomed the TenneT’s initiative to accelerate the connection of the offshore wind farms to the German electricity grid. The proposal presented by TenneT demands that the offshore connecting cables – like the onshore transmission grid – are constructed on the basis of a 10-year offshore grid development plan.
“The proposed acceleration affects only our fourth project,” said Balz and continued: “Our first three North Sea wind farms Global Tech I, MEG 1 and German Bight have fulfilled the expectations of the Federal Network Agency. From the TenneT’s releases in recent months, it is clear that the already promised network connections can be built almost on time, especially since it is secured by the equity investment from Mitsubishi. Grid connection for the MEG 1 wind farm has been completed before the wind farm, as part of the previous project “Borkum West II” with 800 MW of installed capacity.”
Dr. Walter Döring, deputy CEO said: “We have found a competent and a powerful partner, and have all the necessary contracts for the Federal Network Agency approval. We will do everything as a medium-sized business to make a significant contribution to the energy reform, and we will fight the claims which deny wind energy success. We will focus on our successful path for the construction of wind farms in the German North and Baltic Sea.”
