The scene is set for a highly successful Oceanology International 2012 – over 525 exhibitors from 33 countries in the major exhibition and seven separate one day conferences. Being held 13-15 March at London’s ExCeL, Oceanology International 2012 is the global forum where industry, academia and government share knowledge and connect with the marine technology and ocean science community, improving their strategies for measuring, exploiting, protecting and operating in the world’s oceans.
Marine renewable energy will be firmly in the spotlight at Oceanology International 2012.
On the opening day of the show, a full conference day will be devoted to marine renewables focusing on the latest technologies and services supporting their development.
“With the 32GW Round 3 announcement in 2010 and recent announcements from major companies aiming to site turbine manufacturing facilities in the UK, offshore wind has moved very much into the mainstream,” says James Coleman . “At the same time, the UK continues to lead the world in the developing wave and tidal sector as we move from demonstration devices to the first full scale arrays. Oceanology International’s audience has an important role to play in these developments and in similar activities around the globe.”
Alan Moore OBE, Chairman of the Marine Renewables conference stream at Oceanology International 2012, Non-Executive Director of Partnerships for Renewables Ltd, Chairman of Ventus2 VCTplc; and a Visiting Fellow of Imperial College highlights some of the particular areas of interest in a conference preview video on the Oceanology International website; and many exhibitors have completed their ‘product launch’ entries that can be found on the Oceanology International website to show their relevance to this rapidly expanding sector. Exhibits range from a wind farm support vessel moored alongside the exhibition hall to a wide range of products and services that are already playing their part in the industry.
The remaining six conference streams look at the highly relevant topics of ocean observation & forecasting; hydrography & geophysics; navigation & positioning; oil & gas; maritime security; and unmanned underwater vehicles. Vessels are moored alongside ExCeL, and accessible from the exhibition hall where dockside product demonstrations take place. Careers day aimed at attracting new blood to the sectors it serves takes place on the Thursday; and throughout the event there is a full programme of associated events.
