The new Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey, met with leaders of the Scottish renewables industry on the fringes of the Liberal Democrat Spring Conference in Inverness.

Organised by Scottish Renewables, the roundtable meeting included representatives from SSE, RES, EDPr, Repsol, RWE Npower, Renewable UK and Inverness College, and focussed on issues around Ofgem’s Project TransmiT, Electricity Market Reform, offshore transmission hubs and hydro-power.

After the meeting Niall Stuart, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables , said: “ It is clear that the Secretary of State is committed to growing a world-leading renewable energy sector in the UK, and we look forward to working with him and his colleagues to achieve that aim and our shared ambitions for the industry .

“ The meeting was a valuable opportunity to put over the potential impact of on-going reforms on the acceleration of renewable electricity and heat, and for us to reinforce the important role that Scotland will play in meeting the UK’s 2020 renewable energy targets. ”

Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change , said: “ I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet with key members of the renewables industry in Scotland. The representatives of the industry I met in Inverness are among those British companies leading the way in creating green jobs and investment. Scotland will of course make a significant contribution to meeting the UK’s renewable energy targets.

“ Renewable energy also plays a vital role in helping us tackle climate change, reduce carbon emissions and will ensure we power our economies with clean, secure energy for many years to come. ”
