The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, will host a National Environmental Policy Act public scoping meeting for the Department of the Army’s Permit Application Environmental Impact Statement March 28 regarding Baryonyx Corporation Inc.’s proposed offshore wind farm.
The public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback regarding the USACE Galveston District’s EIS and permit application (SWG-2011-00511). This will mark the second EIS conducted in the nation regarding an offshore wind farm, following Cape Wind (America’s first approved offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound).
The proposed wind farm includes the construction of approximately 300 offshore turbines in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Willacy and Cameron counties, Texas.
“We are hoping to get a large response at the public scoping meeting and comment period for this project,” said Jayson Hudson, the Regulatory project manager for the permit application. “Public participation is especially important to our permit evaluation process when the project is as large as the one proposed by Baryonyx Corporation Inc.”
American Sign Language and Spanish interpreters will be available during the meetings, which are scheduled to take place at the Holiday Inn Brownsville (3777 North Expressway, Brownsville, Texas, 78520):
