According to the claims of the newly-appointed minister for employment relations, consumer and postal affairs and North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb efforts are being undertaken so as to save Fakenham training centre, completed in January last year, EDP 24 writes.

The said rescue could be found in the budding offshore power industry, since the proposal voiced by Mr Lamb is to transform £1.2m engineering and construction training centre into a facility providing training on the “green energy” for young generations.

Therefore, Mr Lamb is arranging to hold meetings with representatives of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), the council and education providers in Norfolk. The Minister already discussed the proposal with Fakenham High School and College head teacher Matthew Parr-Burman, North Norfolk District Council economic and tourism manager Robin Smith and Fakenham town councillor Gloria Lisher at a meeting held on Friday.

“It was the agreement of everyone present in the meeting to pursue to possibility of using this facility to give local people the skills needed to work in this industry. It will provide great employment opportunities and the skills needed are very specific. We need to give our youngsters and adults the opportunities to learn these skills,” Mr Lamb told The Times.

He expressed his willingness to include youngsters with the necessary skills to be able to develop a building a career in this industry, urging for the governmental representatives to provide funding for the project to move forward.

At the moment, there are various projects aimed at the development of offshore wind farms such as: Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm, the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm and the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm.
