As reported by the Associated Press, following February report of two consulting companies, which raised various issues related to Fishermen’s Energy offshore project application with state regulators the company asked for additional time to amend their application.
Several concerns have been voiced by consulting firms Boston Pacific Company and OutSmart, ranging from the costs of the project, energy prices, supplied documentation, along with the employment opportunities or lack thereof and the technology to be utilized.
The project purports erecting six turbines 2.8 miles off the coast of Atlantic City, which will generate 25-megawatt power and provide electricity to 10,000 homes. The $200 million project should have put its turbines into operation by May 1, 2013 however, the needed changes will surely prolong project implementation.
According to the company spokeswoman Rhonda Jackson, the amended application should be lodged on June 1 and even though the timeline has changed, the company still hopes to be the first admitted into the state’s offshore wind energy program.
