At the EWEA exhibition in Copenhagen the alderman for Port Affairs, Kees Visser, has awarded the extension of the Visserijkade in Den Helder to Ballast Nedam.
Reason for a festive moment in the Holland Pavilion. Alderman Visser and Mister Folkerts, director at Ballast Nedam, are pleased to hear that creating space for the offshore industry can soon be started.
The development of the Visserijkade will offer space to offshore companies that want to settle in Den Helder. In the near future the demands of the offshore industry for mooring space alongside the quay can be met once the quay will be realized.
Den Helder Home Port
Alderman Kees Visser : “With this assignment we can start with the construction of a so-called multipurpose quay. Here we will be able to facilitate both the fishing sector and the offshore industry on a permanent basis. For Den Helder and the region the port is the driving force behind economic development. In the years to come the municipality will strongly focus on the development of the port. Here lies the opportunity for the region to grow. We also know that from conversations with market parties. Offshore companies are pleased to consider Den Helder their home port. This will create hundreds of jobs in the coming years.”
Favourable Geograpic Location
Offshore companies are interested in settling in the North of North Holland. The strong point of the port is its favourable geographic location. Furthermore, there are minimal tidal movements and logistics are handled fast in the port. In addition to the development of the Visserijkade, space is looked for and found in other ways. Together with the Department of Defence options are investigated for joint use of military terrain and new port related enterprise zones are being developed. All this is turning the economic engine of Den Helder on at full speed.
