Germany: Sinovel Receives GL Statement of Compliance for Design Assessment

GL Renewables Certification (GL RC) has issued a Statement of Compliance for the A-Design Assessment of the Sinovel SL 3000/90 50 Hz offshore wind turbine.

The Statement of Compliance confirms that SL 3000/90 meets the requirements of GL RC’s “Guideline for the Certification of Offshore Wind Turbines,” Edition 2005, which addresses the safety philosophy, quality assurance and engineering integrity of the turbine and that the turbine complies with the standard in terms of the verification of its load assumptions and design. The turbine integrates advanced power generating technologies such as variable speed control, a pitch regulation system, and double-fed inductive generator.

The SL3000 series is suitable for onshore, offshore, and intertidal installation, and is designed to be adaptable to a variety of wind energy resource conditions, as well as being available in a cold climate version and 60Hz versions. With a rated power of 3,000kW, a rotor diameter of 90/105/113m and a hub height of 80/90/110m, the SL3000 series employs several patented technologies and has a low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability.

GL Renewables Certification is also charged with the approval of the Sinovel SL3000 onshore variants, which are currently under certification.

34 sets of Sinovel’s SL3000/90 turbines, a total of 102 MW of energy generation, were installed in the Donghai Bridge Wind Farm, the first Chinese offshore wind project outside Europe, installed in February and put into operation in July 2010. The wind farm is located eight to 8 to 13 km off the Shanghai coast, in the East China Sea, in water depths of 10m on average.
