Yesterday, Energy Minister Martin Lidegaard asked the state-owned company Energinet.dk to start feasibility studies for two proposed wind farms, 400MW Horns Rev 3 and 600MW Kriegers Flak. The work includes studies of marine mammals, birds and how parks could affect navigation. Energinet.dk will also explore the seabed in the area.
At the same time, Energinet.dk has been asked to launch activities in connection with its statutory responsibility to provide grid connections for the two wind farms out to and including offshore transformer platforms for both Horns Rev 3 and Kriegers Flak.
When the two parks are completed, they will be able to deliver environmentally friendly power, enough to power 1 million houses.
“With the two large new wind farms, Denmark is again among the world’s leading wind power nations. Simultaneously, we take an important first step in the implementation of the energy agreement, which must make Denmark less dependent on oil, coal and gas, and ensure that half of the electricity supply in 2020 is based on wind power,” says Martin Lidegaard.
In 2011 Denmark supplied 28.2% of electricity from wind turbines. With the two new wind farms, the percentage is expected to rise by around 10%.
