UPC Renewables Indonesia Ltd (“UPCI”) announced on April 20, with its local development partner PT Binatek Reka Energi, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) between The Directorate of Various New Energy and Renewable Energy, Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia (“DGVNERE”) and UPCI on the development of the 50MW Samas Beach Wind Farm, Bantul, Yogyakarta Province, Java, Republic of Indonesia.

The MOU contemplates, amongst other things, a joint feasibility study to be conducted on the project and assistance from the Ministry in obtaining the necessary permits and consents on the production of a mutually acceptable feasibility study.

Steven Zwaan , Director of UPCI , said: “UPCI has acquired the site at Samas Beach as we share the vision of our Indonesian partners and we are pleased to bring to Indonesia the wealth of experience of wind farm development that exists within the UPC Group of companies (“UPC”) globally. UPC as an entity has considerable experience in operating in jurisdictions that have either no well-established wind energy market or a nascent wind energy market and helping governments to achieve their renewable energy objectives by close cooperation and mutual assistance.

We look forward to successfully developing this project at Samas and are keen to grow our portfolio in Indonesia using the latest technology wind turbines (“WTGs”) that make Indonesia’s low wind energy sites more economic. We believe that this project will have the benefit of providing jobs both in the construction as well as the operation and maintenance of the wind farm whilst providing clean and carbon free energy to the people of Java as well as bringing knowledge and experience of this type of energy to the Indonesia people.”

PT Binatek Reka Energi , President Director Ir. Erwin Jaha said: “PT Binatek Reka Energi has pursued a utility scale wind project at Samas beach for over four years in the hope of bringing the green energy advantages of a modern wind farm to Indonesia. In UPC we have found an experienced partner that shares our dream of clean renewable power for our county.”
