Beijing-based wind power company Goldwind announced in its 2011 annual report that it is undertaking activities on development of a 10MW turbine, aside to considerable number of other wind turbines, Wind Power Monthly informed.
According to the Monthly, the company is also testing a medium-speed model fitted with a locally made gearbox, a system described as ‘half direct drive.’
Following the publication of the Chinese Government’s five-year economic plan for 2011 to 2015, which puts forward development of 3MW to 5MW onshore and 5MW to 10MW offshore wind turbines as a major priority, wind companies joined the race for best design.
Moreover, Goldwind will be unveiling its 6MW prototype by the end of the first half of the year, which is a product of joint work launched in 2010 with a German subsidiary Vensys.
Last year, Sinovel Wind Group Co., Ltd., China’s first specialized high-tech enterprise engaged in independent development, design, manufacturing and sale of large-scale onshore, offshore and intertidal series of wind turbines, announced development of a 10MW turbine as well.
Nevertheless, there are claims that the design of the said turbine is predominantly based on AMSC’s SeaTitan design.
