Anholt Wind, which is the first of three identical service vessels, that are to ensure the transport of technicians to Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, was supplied from Hvide Sande Bådebyggeri at the end of 2012. The second service vessel will be delivered in May 2012 and the third vessel in June 2013.

The three identical service vessels are custom designed to ensure high comfort and safety and are designed for all-year navigation. Their tasks are to transport service technicians and spare parts between the operation and maintenance base of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm in Grenaa and the wind farm.

The vessels have been designed on the basis of DONG Energy’s long experience in order to give the service technicians a pleasant and comfortable transport, and to ensure that they and the crew get home safe and sound.

In addition to the crew, the vessel, which is 25 metres long, is allowed to transport 12 passengers, and it is equipped with two powerful diesel engines, each with an effect of 1080kW (approximately 1,500 HP) and has a maximum speed of approximately 27 knots, about 50 kilometres per hour.

The Mono Hull form is based on tried and tested design, and a similar vessel is already in service at the Walney Offshore Windfarms where the distinctive slender hull has proven to be very efficient.

However, one major difference with the new design is the inclusion of a Gyro stabilizer, which – when finally installed – will provide a reduction in roll of the vessel during the technician transfer operation at the wind turbines.
