Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH has extended their port activities by operating the new port at Rendsburg together with AHLMANN-ZERSSEN GMBH + CO KG. As of 01st February 2012 the two Northern German Companies operate the new heavy duty port at the Kiel-Canal as RENDSBURG PORT GmbH.
The operation contract runs for 15 years and includes the port’s marketing as well whilst the port infrastructure and the pier facilities remain with the owner, the Rendsburg Port Authority, who already plans to extend the stowage areas of the port by another 1.5 hectares.
First of all the operators are going to fix the port as „RENDSBURG PORT“ strongly within the market of nautical services. There is a special focus on onshore and offshore wind energy due to the extreme heavy lift capacities of the port. One major customer is already settling in the port as of 2013, a Company called Max Bögl who manufactures towers for wind power stations.
Already now the operational port area offers 22,000 m² of space with the planned extension of 15,000 m² yet to come. There are two berths on the 300 m long pier with a draught of 9.50 m. Two new cranes with lifting capacities of 150 and 100 tons, 250 tons in tandem-processing will be operational as of summer 2012. Further equipment like heavy duty forklift trucks, tugmaster, heavy duty trailer and reach stacker are there to support the safe handling of any heavy duty cargo.
Last week the first crane with 150 tons capacity arrived at RENDSBURG PORT which is now being erected and installed, this taking about four weeks. The second crane is expected to arrive in the middle of May and it will then also take about four weeks for erection and installation.
The location of the new port right at the Kiel-Canal is the ideal starting point for future oriented companies with high demands who are looking for direct access to international as well as to national waterways. There is sufficient space in the 80 hectares sized industrial area for production, handling and storage of voluminous and heavy constructions for example from the wind power or mechanical engineering industry. Another advantage of the location is direct access to the motorway system which is great for transport companies that want to tranship containers.
