The applications submitted by China Southern Power Grid and Guangdong Yudean Group to start arrangements for offshore wind farms in Zhuhai and Zhanjiang got the National Energy Administration approvals, China Securities Journal reports.

This action indicates that China may be altering the approval process for offshore wind farms by employing more conventional methods. The aim of the bidding process was to reduce development costs, and the four projects approved in the first phase had prices close to the highest price of the onshore wind farms.

It is said that any additional drops in prices will be harmful to the sector’s development.

The Zhuhai wind farm is planned to be operational in 2014, with installed capacity of 198,000 KW and a cost of estimated 4.45 billion yuan.
