France’s first offshore wind farm tender, won by EDF in partnership with Alstom and Dong, will help reduce country’s dependence on nuclear power and catch up with the three leading countries in renewable energy capacity, according to PowerEngineering.

Based on EWEA’s report published in November, even with the planned offshore wind projects, France has a lot of work to do in this field. Britain already has ongoing and planned projects for 47 GW and Germany for 31 GW. The total installed offshore wind capacity in Europe in 2020 would be 40 GW.

Onshore wind generation in France currently has 7000 MW installed, while Germany has 28,000 MW and it is the EU’s top wind producer.
