Seajacks has taken delivery of Seajacks Zaratan, a state-of-the-art jack-up vessel purpose built for the offshore wind industry. The jack-up vessel was built by Lamprell Energy at their Hamriyah facility and increases Seajacks’ fleet to three self-propelled vessels.

The contract for the construction of the vessel was signed between Seajacks and Lamprell in May 2010 following the successful delivery of Seajacks Kraken and Seajacks Leviathan the previous year.

A modified version of the GustoMSC NG5500 design, Seajacks Zaratan incorporates a fully-redundant DP2 propulsion system which allows for fast, safe and cost-efficient transit and positioning between port and offshore location. In addition, the self-propelled jack-up is equipped with an 800T leg-encircling crane, the ability to perform jacking operations in 2m significant wave heights, accommodation for 90 people and will be fully compliant with all North Sea regulatory requirements. This makes the vessel ideal for the installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms.

The Zaratan will start its first assignment in September where it will perform the installation of 80 wind turbine generators (WTGs) and foundations alongside Seajacks Leviathan on the Meerwind wind farm.

Blair Ainslie, Managing Director of Seajacks UK , said, “Seajacks is delighted to announce the arrival of Seajacks Zaratan, our third self-propelled vessel delivered on time and on budget from Lamprell. Lamprell has proven itself as a premium and reliable shipyard and we are pleased to be marking this event with them once again.

This milestone underscores our commitment to provide the highest quality of services and equipment to the offshore energy sector and cements our position as one of the leading operators of self-propelled jack-ups in Europe.”
