Japan is on its way to set up test sites for marine energy and offshore wind power in order to use renewable sources as much as possible.

As reported on Bloomberg, applications for test sites will be required from local administrations and the first group will be picked by March 2014.

After the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan turned off all of its 50 reactors and now it is running safety tests. Therefore, it needs to exploit renewable resources.

Ocean policy task force said that marine energy is significant for the country’s future energy policy, but its usage is limited and the technology is undeveloped in comparison with the USA and Europe.
