Companies involved in Scottish energy sector have claimed their discontent about islands-based renewables projects getting connection to the national grid.

As the Scotsman news portal informs, ScottishPower, SSE and the National Grid representatives were among a group of witnesses at Holyrood’s energy committee, at an evidence session on the Scottish Government’s renewable energy targets.

Concerns have been raised by MSPs about the progress regarding grid connection of the island areas. Mike MacKenzie, Highlands and Islands MSP, said that delays in producing energy from renewable sources would harm customers. Discussing the Orkney Islands’ grid connection,he pointed out the significance of Pentland Firth tidal resources.

“We are absolutely not complacent. We are determined, in terms of creating a regime which both underpins and facilitates investment,” Duncan Burt , from National Grid , replied.
