After the UK government made the draft Energy Bill public last week, disclosing new emissions performance standard for power plants, a major concern within the green energy sector was raised that gas will be used as an alternative for renewable sources.

Natural gas is expected to be used as a bridge fuel while coal power stations are phased out, the H&V News informs.

Consequently, the UK dropped out of the top five most attractive countries for investment in clean energyin Ernst & Young’s quarterly report. Considered to be primarily strong in wind power, UK is now ranked below Italy, which had a strong offshore wind energy performance earlier this year.

Ben Warren , Ernst & Young’s energy and environmental finance leader , commented: “The Electricity Market Reform needs to deliver the right framework to stimulate investment across all forms of energy generation, including renewables.”
