Parliamentary select committee has been informed that there are no hurdles for wind turbines to be built in the hills and offshore Adelaide coast, reports ABC News.

However, Andrew Grear from the South Australian Planning Department said that they were considering putting a ban on some hill sites.

Greens MP Mark Parnell stated that it is unlikely that there will be any wind development in the waters offshore Adelaide.

“You’ve got recreational fishing, you’ve got all manner of other uses of those waters not to mention the fact that it is very expensive to put turbines offshore,” he said.

“There are plenty of locations onshore with a strong wind resource that could accommodate wind farms.

“We don’t need to be going out into the open ocean like they have in Europe.”
