International energy consultancy Xodus Group has appointed Dr Mark Hutchinson into the new position of Head of Advanced Engineering to promote technical engineering excellence on global energy projects.

Dr Hutchinson brings a wealth of experience, particularly in renewable energy projects. Chartered in mechanical engineering, naval architecture and professional management, he joins Xodus from global engineering consultancy Fichtner where he was Head of Wind Energy, managing design teams for offshore and onshore wind projects.

Colin Manson, CEO of Xodus Group said: “We have a significant engineering capability within Xodus working on diverse low carbon and oil and gas projects. The addition of Mark’s heavyweight advanced engineering expertise will be of great benefit to clients.”

Dr Hutchinson has a track record of managing the Energy and Advanced Engineering operations of some of the largest multi-national consultancies, having previously held roles including MD of Energy in Europe for AECOM; Country Director for Ramboll and Regional Director for WYG.

He brings to Xodus his experience from across the engineering consultancy sector and in particular knowledge of the offshore wind, tidal and wave industries, where he has been involved the detailed design, technical review, project direction and owner’s engineer roles.

Dr Hutchinson believes that advanced engineering skills will help industry take the big leaps needed to revolutionise current energy supply.

He said: “To solve some of those bigger challenges facing the energy industry, such as up-scaling offshore wind turbines, a fresh approach to engineering design is required to bridge the gaps. A major draw to Xodus Group was the strong engineering pedigree and the diversity of global projects where multi-discipline teams are working together to solve industry problems.”

The Aberdeen-headquartered consultancy which launched in 2005 has grown to more than 400 people and a turnover of £38.5million offering integrated services covering oil and gas and low carbon. The company aims to at least double in size through organic growth to 1,000 people by 2015 and the board is actively seeking acquisition opportunities.

Xodus has invested significantly in expansion recently with offices in Houston, Nigeria, The Hague, Norway and in the UK.

Xodus Group is exhibiting at the Global Offshore Wind conference at the ExCel Centre in London on June 13 – 14 stand number 157.
