The company that is planning to construct a tidal barrage on the River Wyre estuary says they are ready to fight gas storage company.
Namely, the Wyre Tidal Energy has been established to promote and deliver the construction of a tidal barrage across the Wyre Estuary to produce renewable electricity, provide flood control for the river and regeneration for North Fylde.
Marketing director David Jones told The Gazette:
“We are trying not to wage war with Halite because there is no need to go down that path but we are ready for battle.
“If Halite were to go ahead with their plans to store gas under fields Over Wyre, it would be too dangerous for us to lay our footings.
“If you think about laying foundations near huge pockets of gas, it is just not sensible.”
He said that the company is offering 10,000 local jobs from the beginning of the construction to maintenance.
If approved the barrage would take seven years to complete.
On the other hand CEO of Halite Energy said that the gas storage proposal would create 3,000 direct and indirect jobs at its peak, and it would have no impact on the River Wyre.
