Following the University of Exeter filed trip in May two of the students, Michael Stephenson and Stuart Brown, accompanied by one of their lecturers, Lars Johanning, were invited back to Guernsey to give a couple of presentations on the group’s findings. The University work is part of Commerce and Employment Department’s (C&E) Renewable Energy Team (RET) work on marine renewable where RET work closely with leading UK Universities.
The presentations took place on the evenings of the 19th June at the Cotils in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and 20th June at Les Rocquets in conjunction with the CIGPE.
Although the report is still being finalised RET are keen that as part of its objective of making the public more aware about renewables, the main findings be presented by the University students themselves while it is still fresh and before they graduate. The presentations also coincided with EU’s Sustainable Week whereby sustainability is being highlighted.
The University group acted as consultants and provided a presentation to RET and other contributors and a comprehensive report will be available to the public in due course and on RET’s website.
Mat Desforges, Policy Advisor for C&E for renewables said: “The findings of the University visit confirm that we are on the right track and that renewables should have an important part to play in the energy mix in Guernsey in the long term.”
