Propulsion specialists, WaterMota took several orders for Doosan engines at Seawork this year – revealing that the emphasis is still on the growing market in windfarm support vessels.
Mike Beacham , managing director of WaterMota , said: “Many of these vessels are in use 24 hours a day, working in extreme conditions without access to sophisticated repair facilities, so reliability is essential. The Doosan engine is very robust and well suited for this purpose.”
Increasing distances between windfarms means both reliability and fuel efficiency are key factors in choosing an engine for the larger and faster crew transfer newbuilds.
WaterMota reports that as a direct result of Seawork, orders have been taken for several engines including four 4V158TI’s for wind farm service provider Enviroserve Ltd which will be fitted to a 24m catamaran due to be launched in January 2013.
The new catamaran will operate across Europe and be used for transporting wind farm personnel and equipment and for survey work.
Another order secured at the exhibition was the supply of four engines to Sykes Hydromaster for Damen Shipyards – two L136TI with radiator cooling fitted to Sykes drive units and two L126TI units.
