From spring 2013, A2SEA will play a key role in helping build one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. A2SEA will provide specialist jack-up’s SEA JACK and SEA WORKER to install 160 Siemens 3.6MW turbines on RWE’s Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm, located off the coast of North Wales, will provide 400,000 households with renewable power by 2014.

”At A2SEA, we are very proud to be installing the wind turbines on this project for RWE. We have presented a vessel solution which is robust and tested thoroughly through our extensive experience within the offshore wind industry. The vessel solution secures optimum discharge and logistics from the load-out port. Through good cooperation with RWE we anticipate an efficient, safe and smooth project execution,” says Jens Frederik Hansen , CEO , A2SEA .

RWE npower renewables’ Gwynt y Môr Project Director , Toby Edmonds says: “This contract with A2SEA will ensure Gwynt y Môr remains on schedule to deliver clean green energy from 2013. A2SEA will provide the two jack-up barges, SEA JACK and SEA WORKER, to install wind turbine towers, generators and blades. These vessels will work in conjunction with our own Seabreeze class construction vessel, Friedrich Ernestine that will install wind turbine foundations in 2012/2013. We anticipate that the first completed turbine will begin generating electricity in 2013.”

A2SEA has installed more than half of the Northern Europe’s offshore wind farms, and the Danish installation contractor is looking forward to this next significant project.

“The contractual process with RWE npower had been conducted in an open and trusting forum by our skilled and dedicated team. The development of best solutions has been our highest priority and has driven the process. The agreement has been developed with respect to the operational setup, where A2SEA’s know-how and experience has contributed to identifying a workable solution that minimises the risk. The agreement allows A2SEA the freedom of using our experience and know-how to deliver a safer, sustainable, and more cost-efficient operation,” says Jens Frederik Hansen , CEO , A2SEA .
