Nordic Yards, manufacturer of innovative special ships and major maritime projects for the offshore wind and other industries, has been granted the official status of Authorised Economic Operator Full (AEO F) by the Stralsund Main Customs Office.

The yards at Wismar and Warnemünde are therefore the first in Germany to achieve this special official status with the certificate type “customs simplification/safety and security”.

Recognition as an Authorised Economic Operator marks out the shipyard group as a company with reliable and trustworthy business processes. In return, Nordic Yards sees benefits in terms of customs clearance, for example simplified and faster customs formalities when importing and exporting goods.

As well as continuous compliance with customs regulations and comprehensive safety standards, the requirements for being granted this status include an appropriate accounting system and financial solvency in the last three years.

“Nordic Yards’ successful entry into the offshore wind energy market and the changing international security situation prompted us to take up the challenge and apply for certification,” says Fred-G. Wegener, Senior Vice President Engineering and Production at Nordic Yards.

“In the months it took to complete the approval process, during which audits were carried out by experts from the Main Customs Office, the shipyards were able to prove beyond doubt that their internal and external processes complied with the highest standards,” says Thomas Kidschun, Head of Logistics.

With the safety and security of the global supply chain gaining in importance as globalisation extends and flows of cross-border goods increase, the European Union introduced the AEO Certificate in 2008 to clearly identify the best and most reliable partners among the international competition. The status of Authorised Economic Operator is recognised as a quality seal within the world of trade and industry and promises to deliver competitive advantages.
